Happy Tails 2015!

These are the dogs who have been adopted or transferred through our program in 2015. They are some very lucky pooches!

SASHA IN HER FUREVER HOME!

Hi! I'm Sasha. I'm still a baby, but boy do I like to play! I have a sassy little personality and guarantee I can think of 101 ways to keep you on your toes! I'm looking for a family who wants a snuggle bug and a constant source of entertainment. Could that be you?

MARTY IS IN HIS FUREVER HOME!

Hi! My name is Marty. I'm a love bug! I just want to be near my people! I have been very good around other dogs and cats. I just want love. Lots and lots of love from my very own family. I am a housedog, but I'll need some remedial training to make sure I don't have accidents

SNICKERS IS IN HER FUREVER HOME!

Hi! My name is Snickers and oh boy what things I can find to get into!! I'm very clever and have a complex array of thinking skills. I can figure out how to escape almost anything, so you'd better have a plan for keeping me home! I was very, very well socialized as a tiny puppy by some boys who saved me from the streets, so I am definitely looking for a family who can give me the same kind of consistent attention. There will never be a dull moment with me around! CATS: yes KIDS: yes ALL ANIMALS WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

SHEA IS IN HER FUREVER HOME!

Hi! I'm Shea. I'm still a baby, but I'm learning my way around this great big world and it's a very fun place! I'm a little shy, somewhat reserved, but boyohboy what a lovebug I am! I could sit and snuggle with you all day. Will you let me? CATS: yes KIDS: yes ALL ANIMALS WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

CESAR IS IN HIS FUREVER HOME--MITZI'S MISSION

Cesar is a little bundle of energy! He bounces around like a tiny deer, always so happy! He has reason to be. When Cesar (pronounced “Chay-zar”) first came to us, he had almost no hair at all. He had been neglected so seriously for so long that mange had really taken hold. He underwent extensive veterinary treatment and kicked that mange to the curb! Cesar weighs about 25 pounds. He’s about a year old, and we feel certain he’s a min pin mix. Cesar crates well and appears to have been a house dog at some point in his previous life. He is very well mannered and gets along great with all other dogs. CATS: yes KIDS: yes ALL ANIMALS WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

ABBIE IN HER FUREVER HOME

Abbie is a very sweet family pet, about 40 pounds. She is probably a husky mix. She's easygoing and very few things upset her. She's comfortable inside a home and has a very quiet, calm presence. CATS: yes KIDS: yes ALL ANIMALS WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

COCOA IS IN HER FUREVER HOME--RINGWOOD NJ

Cocoa is just right for a family who wants a good-natured, playful indoor dog. She's probably a feist mix. She's cute as she can be and loves to sit up on her haunches like a prairie dog. She crates well and appears to be housebroken. CATS: yes KIDS: yes ALL ANIMALS WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

HOLLIE IS IN HER FUREVER HOME--MITZI'S MISSION

Hollie is an adorable schnauzer mix with a super personality. She's very sweet, outgoing, playful, and extremely well behaved. Occasionally her antics provide some comic relief! She's solid, about 30 pounds. She will be the perfect dog for someone looking to liven up their home with puppy love. CATS: yes KIDS: yes ALL ANIMALS WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION. HUCK IN HIS FUREVER HOME--MOLLY'S PLACE RESCUE, MECHANICSBURG PA

Huck has a boy of his own! What a perfect match, too. Wishing Huck many years of romping and playing with his new family, long evenings stretched out on the sofa. Congratulations, Huck!

PETEY IS IN HIS FUREVER HOME-MOLLY'S PLACE RESCUE, MECHANICSBURG PA

Petey was lost and terrified on a Bluefield city street only a few short weeks ago. Now he's safe and warm with a family who loves him very much!

JOPLIN IS IN HER FUREVER HOME-MOLLY'S PLACE RESCUE, MECHANICSBURG PA

Joplin was left behind when her owner moved. A concerned neighbor took her in and contacted us. We knew Molly's Place could help. And help they did! Joplin was adopted within hours of arrival. Her new owner knew a great gal when he saw one!

GABE--HIRED BY TAZEWELL ARC AS KENNEL SECURITY. SALARY TO BE PAID IN DOG TREATS

Gabriel. Ah, yes—Gabriel. What a superstar this boy is! He was a favorite at Pocahontas State Correctional Center while he was enrolled in the SCAR program (Second Chance At Rehabilitation,) and he is a favorite here at ARC. He’s a hound mixed with some sort of bully breed, weighs about 80 pounds and means business. Gabriel is not aggressive. In fact, he’s extremely gentle and sweet. But he is large and powerful and is a bit of a. . .well, it seems that perhaps he watched the guards at PSCC and learned a thing or two from them, because he carries himself with a lot of authority. He needs a very calm, assertive handler who is experienced with working dogs or is willing to enroll in professional obedience classes. We are going to be very picky about this dog’s adoption. In the wrong hands, he could develop dangerous habits. In this case, “wrong hands” doesn’t necessarily mean dog fighters. Gabriel will have to choose his own person. He needs structure, strong leadership, a six foot fence, and permission to sleep in the bed with his owner. He can never be left alone with cats, smaller dogs, or children--not because he is violent but because in his enthusiasm, he could injure or terrify them. Gabriel’s situation here at ARC is anything but dire. To everyone’s astonishment, he is flourishing in this environment and is welcome to live out his days here with us if a qualified adopter cannot be found. DEE ADOPTED!

Dee turns heads wherever she goes. She is a very striking boxer mix, with perhaps a little Mountain Cur in her blood. She’s muscular and poised, with a gorgeous bright brindle coat and a beautiful face. She’s a very sweet girl, quite independent and can be assertive when she’s comfortable in her environment. She’s about a year old and weighs about 40 pounds. She does well in a crate, but would do equally well in a fenced yard. Inside, she needs supervision. She tends to think the whole house is her toy. At present time, Dee is enrolled in the SCAR program (Second Chance At Rehabilitation) at Pocahontas State Correctional Center. When she graduates from that inmate training program, she’ll have a certificate in basic obedience and will be immediately adoptable. Look for her to be available this spring! SUNNY IS IN HER FUREVER HOME-PHILADELPHIA PA PSPCA

Sunny had four puppies and lived with them underneath a trailer in Doran Bottom. She took very good care of her babies--concerned observers watched her carry food to them day and night. We were able to take all five and put them on transport to the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philly. Look at Sunny now with her new fur-parents and fur-sibling! Love that coat!

HANS ADOPTED!

Found wandering on a country road with a broken leg, Hans is now living the high life with his new furever family--Michael and Mayrissa Fender. Yay, Hans!

DOMINO IS IN HIS FUREVER HOME-ROSELLE IL SCCR

Domino is a sweet, sweet, sweet boy. He’s had a hard life so far—first he was dumped on a rural road with two other dogs, then he got hit by a car. He’s a survivor, though. He will always be weak in his hind legs, but it doesn’t slow him down much. He’s a fluffy little terrier mix who weighs about 25 pounds. He crates well and needs an indoor home, with a family who will shower him with lots of attention and treats. Lots and lots of treats! CATS: yes KIDS: yes ALL ANIMALS WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

SERGIO IS IN HIS FUREVER HOME-ROSELLE IL SCCR

Sergio can be a bit of an enigma. He’s very sweet and loves people. He wants attention and will go to great lengths to get it. He’s a little on the hyper side, but not so much that he can’t calm down. With other dogs, though, he doesn’t seem to understand basic canine communication. He’s not aggressive, but he sends mixed signals to other dogs and this can start an argument. He doesn’t know how to play politely with other dogs. He’s learned a lot since he’s been here, but he’s still awkward in social situations. We’re not sure what breeds went into making Sergio. He’s a true hodgepodge. His ideal home will have a large fenced yard for him to run off some of his excess energy. Sergio is about a year old and weighs about 35 pounds. He was dumped with two other dogs on a rural road, and we feel certain that being abandoned plays into many of his insecurities with other dogs. CATS: yes KIDS: yes ALL ANIMALS WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

ROMEO IS IN HIS FUREVER HOME-ROSELLE IL SCCR

Romeo is a regular Mr. Sassy Britches! He’s most likely a Border Collie/Aussie mix, and he has all the best traits of both breeds. He’s extremely sweet, loves attention, is very smart, and full of energy! He needs a fenced yard to play in, for sure. He’s about a year old and weighs about 40 pounds. Romeo was dumped with two other dogs on a rural road and missed some key manners training in the previous few months. But even though he’s a little rough around the edges, he shows every indication of becoming a true gentleman with the right training. He’s good with certain dogs, but with others he tries to be dominant and this causes a lot of friction. He definitely doesn’t need to be the only dog in the home, but care should be taken with introductions so he doesn’t get off on the wrong foot with fur-siblings. CATS: yes KIDS: yes ALL ANIMALS WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE ADOPTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

KAY IS IN HER FUREVER HOME-ROSELLE IL SCCR

Kay is a hound/cattle dog cross and she’s quite a character! She’s very sweet, unfailingly polite with people, and respectful of her handler. She’s about a year old and weighs about 65 pounds. Kay will benefit from some obedience classes, but we predict she’ll be an eager and very fast learner. She’s a dominant female, but after a hierarchy is established, she’s proven to be good with every dog we’ve tested her with.
